50 years ago, 90% of Iceland's women went on strike. Guess what happened next?

When nearly all of Iceland’s women walked off the job and out of their homes the morning of October 24, 1975, the country came to a standstill. The women refused to work, cook, or take care of the children; they brought their country to its knees and catapulted the island nation to its status as one of the best places in the world today to be a woman. Turning Grief into Power

In November 2024, women's advocate and all around badass Cynthia de Lorenzi joined forces with Inkandescent Women to found the Empowered Together Netework on InkandescentWomen.com. She launched the Mourning in America column on BeInkandescent.com, which offers insight into the changes happening in her beloved country. In October 2025, her mourning turned personal when her husband Larry Nelson passed. Today, we pay tribute to their eternal love, and wish him Godspeed.
