Monday Morning Magic, July 11, 2022 — Yes, we know there’s nothing magical about getting divorced, especially when kids are in the picture. The key is to go about the process in the least destructive/painful way possible. The good news is that there are ways to soften the blow according to today’s featured expert, Vicki Vollweilder, MBA, CDC, founder of College Financial Prep.

In the Advice from Experts section of our new book, Why Divorce: 5 Reasons to Leave, Vicki shared some of her insights in the article, Six Ways To Minimize College Costs And Maximize Savings For Separated And Divorced Parents.

She suggests:

  • Determine who is the “Custodial Parent”
  • Strategically apply to schools that will not require financial information from both parents
  • Find schools that offer merit aid
  • Correctly complete financial aid forms
  • Consider any changes in household income that have occurred since the divorce
  • Communicate well!

Click here to read all about it. And be sure to check out Vicki’s video interview on this week’s episode of Margaritas with Marguerita Cheng, CFP® Pro. Listen to the podcast on Margarita Cheng’s weekly radio show.

We leave you with this parting thought from Vicki: “It is essential to communicate both with your former spouse and your child regarding goals and expectations. The goal is for everyone to be on the same page and work towards a common goal. The key is to avoid resentment and heartache when difficult final decisions need to be made. Stay calm, keep your emotions in check, and consult with experts who can help guide you through this process. Success is within your reach.” Click here for more.

Until next Monday: We wish you courage, patience, and peace amidst the chaos. — Hope Katz Gibbs, founder, and president, Inkandescent® Inc. Inkandescent.us
