Sept. 16, 2024: Philanthropy is on the rise! Check out these women on giving’s cutting edge

Monday Morning Magic from Inkandescent® PR + Publishing Co. — Check out these findings by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy:
- Total charitable giving is expected to rise above the historical 10-year, 25-year, and 40-year annualized average rates of growth in both 2024 and 2025.
- Giving by households is predicted to grow but will trail the rate of growth for total giving.
- Giving by foundations is expected to experience strong growth, outpacing growth rates for total giving in 2024 and 2025.
- Giving by estates is anticipated to experience stronger growth in 2025, rising above the historical 10-year, 25-year, and 40-year annualized average rates of growth.
- Giving by corporations is also projected to grow but will lag historic rates of growth for this sector.
So it’s a pleasure to introduce you today to three groups of women who are leading the philanthropic charge:
1. Shelly Kurtz, author of This Little World: A How-To Guide for Social Innovators. The founder and principal of Eagle Pointe Advisors, supporting philanthropies, nonprofits, and social impact organizations as a strategic CXO, Shelly and her book are the cover story this September our PR & Publishing website, Inkandescent.us. Before writing the book, Shelly co-founded an innovation center for Technology for Public Interest (Tech4PI), a market intelligence platform for social innovation organized by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and a digital evidence SaaS platform. Recipient of over 50 industry awards, Shelly has led over 200 global campaigns in tech, media, social impact, and entertainment.
“Our planet has never been smaller,” Shelly believes. “Technological advancements have compressed time and space, making the world more immediate and interconnected. But a shrinking planet is not without its challenges: climate change, food shortages, pollution, and war are persistent headwinds. We need strategies and tools that promote stability and growth, and we need technology that is more inclusive, trusted, and focused on community goals.”
Shelly’s co-author is Michael Halvorson, Ph.D., who explains that This Little World seeks to inspire those who wish to explore the rich and rewarding world of social innovation. “The book is a practical, step-by-step guide to innovation opportunities that will enrich an organization’s capacity for transformation and impact. With insights from leading social innovators, This Little World demonstrates how “tech for good” organizations use social innovation strategies, emerging tools, and sustainable practices to support environmental causes, humanitarian initiatives, accessibility, and more.” Learn more at thislittleworld.org.
Meet Shelly virtually on September 24: Inkandescent® will be joining Shelly at the Equity Summit 2024 for a day of discussions at the National Press Club. Hosted by the Center for Workforce Inclusion and CWI Labs, Shelly will be moderating the “Storytelling for Change Panel.”
“Each year, the Center for Workforce Inclusion and CWI Labs convene more than 1,000 employers, decision-makers, influencers, policymakers, and practitioners for a unique opportunity – to discuss the economic imperative of an age-inclusive workforce,” Shelly shares. “Older Americans have a labor force participation rate of only 38% and a long-term unemployment rate of 28%. And these numbers only worsen for older adults in traditionally underrepresented communities. Unlike other workforce conferences, the Summit focuses on solutions to the systemic obstacles that prevent our nation from achieving a fully inclusive workforce.” Click here to learn more.
2. We are also thrilled to introduce you to our newest Inkandescent® PR client: The 10 international authors of the The Uprising of Women in Philanthropy.
“This book tells the inspiring, never-before-told story of the Global Women’s Funding Movement — considered the women’s movement’s greatest secret – and how it enabled women from all walks of life to harness the power of money to free themselves from oppression,” explains author Christine Grumm who with a group of 10 international philanthropic powerhouses penned the book: Ndana Bofu-Tawamba, Ruby Bright, Stephanie Clohesy, Musimbi Kanyoro, Helen LaKelly Hunt, Ana Oliveira, Laura Risimini, Jane Sloane, and Jessica Tomlin.
“It’s an important read for those interested in focusing the power of philanthropy on leveraging systemic social justice victories and gender equality gains,” Christine insists, noting that the long-practiced “Feminist Funding Principles” imparted by the authors is a recipe for the feminist alchemy needed to transform society for the betterment of all.
Brimming with feminist epiphanies, this social justice playbook is an urgent call for women’s collective leadership to guide humanity through the gravest of challenges, overcoming patriarchy’s multi-millennium reign through the uprising of women leaders and philanthropists. Founded during the second-wave women’s movement of the early 1970s, small groups of women worldwide, independent of each other, had the same epiphany: it will take a movement of women to raise the money needed to fund women’s freedom. Click here to learn more, and stay tuned for the new website Inkandescent is building for the book — it’ll be live in October!
Meet Christine on September 26: For all of our Massachusetts friends, be sure to attend this discussion at 6:30pm where Christine Grumm will discussing the book and its impact at 29 Green Street in Newburyport, MA. Click here to RSVP. Questions? Send Chris an email: christinegrumm@gmail.com
