Michael Glenwood Gibbs, Inkandescent Art Director

Michael Glenwood Gibbs has been the Art Director at Inkandescent™ Inc. since its inception in 2008. He is responsible for designing websites, marketing materials, and books for the company and its clients. His brilliance shines in every project.

Since graduating from the illustration program in 1972 at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, Michael worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in a telecommunication firm’s graphics department before embarking on a career as a freelance illustrator.

Michael has worked with a diverse and impressive list of clients, including national magazines and newspapers, major corporations, colleges and universities, book publishers, trade associations, and others. He has also produced posters for theater, opera, and other clients. His illustrations have received peer recognition from the cream of the crop in the industry, including the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, 3×3 Magazine, Creative Quarterly, American Illustration, and many more.

His work has been exhibited at the Society of Illustrators gallery in New York, the Edison Gallery in DC’s gallery district, the Billy Shire Gallery in Los Angeles, Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles, the Corcoran Museum, the Ratner Museum in Bethesda, MD, the Art Institute of Washington, 87 Florida Gallery in Washington, DC, the Cafritz Arts Center Gallery in Silver Spring, MD, and the gallery at Montgomery College.

In addition to a full-time illustration career, he has been involved in printmaking at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA, Pyramid Atlantic in Silver Spring, MD, the Corcoran College of Art in Washington, DC, and Studio 23 in Richmond, VA, focusing on mezzotints, etchings, letterpress and creating handmade artist’s books.
